FAQs

Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture sensation can vary based on the location of the point. The diameter of an acupuncture needle is extremely fine and insertion can be undetectable or even comfortable. Areas like the hands and feet are more likely to cause a pricking sensation, but any discomfort is a momentary experience. If you’re feeling any anxiety around needling, please communicate and I will gently guide you through the process and support the settling of your nerves.

How can I prepare for an acupuncture session?

The most important thing is to make sure you have eaten something nourishing prior to needling. Acupuncture is an engagement with the physical body, so we’re looking for the system to be grounded and comfortable prior to treatment.

Wearing looser clothing will also help me to access different areas of body more easily. I will always have draping available to protect your physical privacy if we need to get to an acupuncture point in a covered area. I am a trauma-informed practitioner and I am here to communicate very openly and move very slowly if physical touch is a complicated or overwhelming experience in your world.

Can I receive acupuncture while pregnant?

Yes, you can absolutely receive acupuncture while pregnant. The pregnancy will inform what points I select for treatment though, so communicating that you’re transitioning into motherhood is very important. Acupuncture is truly helpful for all aspects of female reproductive health. With time, I intend to offer acupuncture support during labor, so stay tuned for updates.
