Eating Disorders and other Self-Harm

Having a body can sometimes feel like too much to bear. Negative emotions can settle and slowly consume our internal landscape. Very often, self-harm is an attempt to soothe or regulate emotional turbulence. There tends to be confusion and misunderstanding around these behaviors, but self-harm facilitates a physiological release. Through this lens, we can then understand how acupuncture provides a different path toward physiological discharge. From this place, there can be more space to navigate painful emotions. This healing modality also produces mood-elevating endorphins, reduces anxiety and depression, and supports the digestive distress and fatigue that can accompany an eating disorder.
